Cooking with a Wallflower

Recommendations Wallflower Weekly Faves

Wallflower Weekly Finds, 197

Last weekend, my family and I went to the Great Dickens Christmas Fair at the Cow Palace. This event takes place every year from Thanksgiving to Christmas, but we have never gone before. Finally, we decided that this year we’ll go. And it was amazing.

Dickens' Fair | Cooking with a Wallflower

If you’re a fan of Charles Dickens. Or Victorian London. Or Christmas. Or fairs. This is the place to be. There were 7 stages for live shows, food and drinks, tons of shops, lots of demos from artisans, and the magic of Christmas. There are actors walking around everywhere. So if you decide to stop to rest at a bench, a few actors may stop in front of you and act out a scene.

I’m starting to count down the days until Christmas.

Over the next few weeks, my weekends are filled with events. Wine country, office holiday dinner, Cirque du Soleil’s Volta, and Candytopia. Not to mention all those dinners with family and friends leading up to the holidays. It’s going to be so much fun. And so exhausting. What plans do you have for the holidays? Will you be staying local or traveling?

Since I’m working extra days leading up to the holidays, I know I’m going to need a little extra pick me up. So does my youngest sister, Victoria. She’s currently studying for the last of her finals so she needs something to keep her up during those long study sessions. Remember those days? I definitely don’t miss it.

Tis’ the season for fresh baked cookies!

Every December as it gets closer and closer to Christmas, all I want to do is stay in the kitchen, have the oven on all day, bake cookies, and bask in the aroma of cookies baking in the oven. Seriously, there’s no better time to be in the kitchen than during the winter.

Last weekend, one of my friends stopped by Mr. Holmes’ Bakehouse and tried their churro croissant. She loved it so much she highly recommended it to me. So of course, this week I had to try it for myself. She was right. The flaky layers of the croissant, the cinnamon sugar coating the outside, and the sweet cream on the inside. It was the perfect balance in flavor and texture.

Happy Wednesday!

I’m in holiday mode! It always happens as soon as Thanksgiving arrives. If I could, I would take the entire month after Thanksgiving off just to bake cookies, watch Christmas movies, and sip on hot chocolate. If only, right? lol.

But December is definitely the perfect month to indulge in all your favorite desserts. It comes just once a year and it’s the peak of the holiday season, so I figured that means it’s okay to eat all the cookies and comfort foods I want.

I found a little piece of fall in San Francisco. About a week ago, it finally rained. And I have never been so excited to see rain. It chased away all the smoke from the wildfires. And I love that I can finally walk outside again without a mask on.

Fall

With December just around the corner, it’s time to talk about baking and entertaining. I’m not sure why, but when it comes to December, I feel like it’s all about the baking and the entertaining. If only that’s all I have to do all December long. Wouldn’t that be amazing? lol.

So this week, let’s talk cookies, entertaining, and all things cozy.

Happy Thursday!

I have one last fall inspired recipe to share with you before we head into December!

I can’t believe we’re already wrapping up the fall season. Every year, it feels so short lived. Every year, I feel unprepared. And every year, I say that the next year I’ll be more on top of things. And every year, it ends the same way. I guess there’s always next year.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I took most of the weekend off to just catch up on sleep and do absolutely nothing but watch Christmas movies, read murder mysteries, and eat leftovers. And it was amazing because I don’t get to have that kind of break often.

Thanksgiving 2018

Thanksgiving 2018

Plus, we ended up getting our Christmas tree this weekend too! I said that we’d settle for a small Christmas tree this year since we don’t really have room for it. But when we got to the Christmas tree lot and walked around, I spotted a 6 foot tree that seemed just perfect. I ended up buying it on the spot. Sooo….. so much for buying a smaller tree this year. Lol. Did you get your Christmas tree yet?

In the meantime, if you still need ideas for Thanksgiving leftovers, which we’re almost done with now, I found some amazing recipes below.
