Happy Sunday!

I hope you’re enjoying your weekend so far. I’ve been working the last few weekends so it’s nice to finally have a full weekend off. I spent my Saturday mostly hanging out with my sister. We tried a brand new bakery for breakfast and discovered new favorites.

Last weekend, my friend. who is getting married in April, asked me to go wedding cake tasting with her and her fiance at a bakery in Los Altos. There were so many different flavors of cakes to try. My favorite was the mango passionfruit sponge cake and the green tea sponge cake with vanilla bean cream. Sooo good. If you live in the Bay Area, Satura Cakes is one of my favorite bakeries.

Wedding Cake Tasting

I used to go to school in the area and sometimes after classes, we would stop at Satura Cakes for some pastries. They have so many options, including a chocolate covered croissant. I mean, seriously chocolate covered croissant.

The heavy rain falls steadily outside. The strong wind howls and rattles the windows. It’s definitely winter in the Bay Area, and all I want to do is stay inside.

I swear, if I could hibernate all winter, I really would. All the gloominess and gray skies make me want to stay in bed and under layers of blankets all day long. Does anyone else feel the same way? How do you motivate yourself to get things done?

Salted Caramel Apple Turnovers | Cooking with a Wallflower

Since I can’t stay in bed all day, I like to spend time in my second favorite spot in the house: the kitchen. I’ve mentioned before that I love having the oven on during the winter with something delicious baking. The warmth from the heat radiating from the oven, the aroma of baked goods. What’s not to love?

Happy Sunday!

We survived the first full week of the new year, and somehow it’s already almost the middle of the month. Some days, time goes by a little too fast. It’s kind of scary.

But since we survived the first week, yay us!, that means we should celebrate! It’s definitely another perfect day for brunch. At home. Because it’s supposed to be raining this weekend. And let’s be honest. I don’t do well in the rain. lol. Cold and wet is definitely not one of my favorites.

One of my favorite places for brunch in San Francisco is Sweet Maple. They have something called Millionaire’s Bacon. Thick cut bacon slowly baked in brown sugar and chili for hours. It’s seriously my favorite kind of bacon and also the most expensive. If you’ve ever tried to brave the brunch crowd during a weekend in SF, you know how serious people are about brunch out here. As in over an hour wait. So I loved that I was able to go out during the holidays when most locals were out of town and got to be seated in about 15 minutes. If you’re ever in SF and looking for a brunch spot, Sweet Maple is it. And definitely order the Blackstone Benedict.

It’s been raining the entire weekend in San Francisco, and there are no signs of the rainstorm letting up. I think we’re in for a whole week of rain and gusty winds. Which means it’s the perfect time to spend in the kitchen with the oven on.

Maple Garlic Soy Salmon Grain Bowls | Cooking with a Wallflower

The oven is definitely not my favorite to have on during the summer when it’s super warm and the sun is streaming through the windows, creating an inferno in the kitchen. But during the winter when it’s cold outside, the warmth radiating from the oven is the most comforting. It doesn’t matter if I’m making dinner or baking desserts, it’s just so cozy in the kitchen when the oven is on. At least it is to me. Do you feel the same way?
