Cooking with a Wallflower

Dips and Sauces Gluten Free Healthy Quick and Easy Recipes Vegan Vegetarian

Roasted Garlic Butter

Garlic roasted in olive oil to create a deliciously aromatic spread. AKA Garlic Infused Olive Oil or Roasted Garlic Butter.

Roasted Garlic Butter | Cooking with a Wallflower

It’s not really butter. But that’s what makes this roasted garlic spread so wonderful.

Garlic cloves slowly roasted in olive oil until the garlic becomes aromatic.

The olive oil will be infused with garlic, perfect for salads or drizzling over your fish or meat for flavor.

The garlic cloves become soft and easy to spread, just like butter, perfect for making garlic bread.

Save this recipe because you’re going to be using it a lot in the future.

Korean Rice Cakes

Rice cakes cooked with assorted vegetables and fish cake in a sweet and spicy sauce. These Korean rice cakes are delicious, easy to prepare, and taste like those found in Korean restaurants.

Korean Rice Cakes | Cooking with a Wallflower

It’s been awhile since I had Korean food so I figured it’s time to make my own.

There’s something about Korean cuisine that’s so addictive. It must be all those spicy dishes. I really can’t resist them. As you can probably tell with some of the recipes I’ve posted previously. Like this one and this one.

Whenever I’m having dinner with a friend at a Korean restaurant, I usually order bibimbap, tofu soup, spicy pork, or Korean rice cakes. It makes life so much easier when I have a list of my usuals. I’m really indecisive and having to decide on the spot what I want for dinner can be a long process. To save time, I like to go online, find the menu to the restaurant I’m going to eat at, narrow down my choices, go to the restaurant, and then decide what I want to eat based on the few I preselected. Um… Yeah. Does anyone else do this? Or is it just me?

Life of a Wallflower

Life of a Wallflower, 23 – San Francisco International Chocolate Salon

I was going to wait a little later this week before I posted about the San Francisco International Chocolate Salon, but it was soo much fun and such a great experience, I couldn’t wait any longer. If you’re in the Bay Area next year, I would totally recommend going to this event. So many vendors, gourmet artisanal chocolates, wine tastings, as well as a few other goodies.

So many people were there!

Where else would you get to try all these different brands of expensive chocolate? I know that as much as I love chocolate, I really do have to think twice, maybe even more, before buying a chocolate bar that’s $6-7. Or truffles that are $3-4 each. Because it’s definitely an indulgence that I can’t afford regularly. So they have to be absolutely amazing.

Roasted Asparagus and Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta | Cooking with a Wallflower

It’s March 15, which means I turn 28 today!

Last year, I was a little apprehensive about turning 27, but you know what? It turned out to be the best year EVER. So now, I’m looking forward to what 28 will bring.

And I’m super excited because I have tickets to go the San Francisco International Chocolate Salon today. Gourmet chocolate tasting, wine tasting, demos, and book signings. How likely do you think it is that I’m going to be hoarding chocolate home? Highly likely…

Seriously, you don’t have to ask me twice to go. I already know it’s going to be the perfect way to celebrate =)

I’ll be sure to share photos later next week!

Recommendations Wallflower Weekly Faves

Wallflower Weekly Faves, 5

There are so many links I want to share with you this week! Plus I added a “recipe,” which isn’t really a recipe but I wanted to share anyway. So it’ll go on my wallflower weekly faves  =)

I’ve been obsessed with blood oranges. But seriously, some of those expensive blood oranges are so freaking sour! So what to do with them? Drizzle honey on top and place them in the oven under the broiler setting. And I get Broiled Honey Blood Oranges. It’s warm and citrusy and brings out the flavor of blood oranges.

The weather is playing games with me again. One moment, it’s raining, and the next, it’s bright and sunny. I can’t tell what I’m supposed to wear outside. Is it winter? Is it spring? Will it be hot? Or breezy? Should I wear boots? Or flats? Decisions, decisions.

Well, I’m taking that dilemma away with this tasty creamy pesto soup.

Okay, so I’ve been a little obsessed with soup lately. This time, I wanted something refreshing yet warm. I wanted something that could chase away the winter chills but at the same time welcome in the spring. After all, we’re nearly halfway through March. What better way than a warm soup loaded with vegetables?

Shredded chicken, vegetables, and soba noodle served in a miso based broth. This Asian twist to Chicken and Vegetable Noodle Soup is delicious and easy to make.

Asian Chicken and Vegetable Noodle Soup | Cooking with a Wallflower

Just less than a week until I turn 28. So I think it’s time to start celebrating a little early with some of my favorite foods, right?

Sidenote: I’m actually watching the Bachelor season finale as I’m writing this post. Is anyone else as addicted to that show as I am? It’s a guilty pleasure.

If you haven’t noticed yet, I love soba noodles, and I like to incorporate them in as many recipes as possible. They’re healthy and super easy to make.

This particular soup incorporates the idea of a comforting chicken noodle soup with Asian flavors. Loaded with napa cabbage, tomatoes, shredded chicken, and soba noodles, this Asian Chicken and Vegetable Noodle soup is a delicious way to keep yourself (and your family) warm as winter slowly melts away into spring.

If you’re a fan of miso soup, then you’ll definitely be a fan of this Asian version of chicken noodle soup.

Rice Crispies Treats with Nutella Drizzle

Melted marshmallows mixed with rice crispies cereal then topped with a Nutella drizzle. This small batch of Rice Crispies Treats is the perfect little dessert.

Rice Crispies Treats with Nutella Drizzle | Cooking with a Wallflower

I love desserts, but I prefer my desserts in small batches, no matter how good they are.

The thing is, the less you have, the more you appreciate it. If I had a huge cake I had to finish, by that last piece, I’m probably sick of it. Just like I prefer an ice cream cone to an ice cream sundae. There’s just way too much of everything in a sundae. Unless, of course, I get to share it with my sisters or my cousins. Then we can go as big as we want.

The Law of Diminishing Marginal Utilities. I swear, that’s the only term I remember from my high school AP Econ class, almost ten years ago. Probably because it applies to my food oriented life, even back then. Basically, when you first start out (eating or whatever), you’re at the peak of your enjoyment. Over time, the more you consume, the less you will enjoy it. Which is totally true with buffets and desserts.

Rice Crispies Treats with Nutella Drizzle | Cooking with a Wallflower

These Rice Crispies Treats are soo delicious. With just 8 squares, I don’t have to worry about overeating, or what to do with a ton of leftovers. It’s just enough for one or two per person in my family. I love the ooey gooeyness of the melted marshmallows covering the rice crispies cereal. I don’t even like marshmallows. But it’s a whole different story when they’re melted. And then with a Nutella drizzle on top? Soo good.
