Cooking with a Wallflower

Life of a Wallflower Recommendations Travel

Destination: Philadelphia’s Museum District

“History is rich knowledge. In your travel, learn brief history of the place visited.” — Lailah Gifty Akita

Philadelphia's Museum District | Cooking with a Wallflower

While I explored Philadelphia, I spent some time in the Museum District. I wish I had more time to visit all the museums, but since I had less than three days in Philly, I had to pick and choose the museums I wanted to explore, especially since visits to museums take time.

I highly recommend walking along Benjamin Franklin Parkway which leads you from City Hall all the way to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This parkway is lined with trees and such a gorgeous place to walk. Along the parkway, you can visit so many other museums and historical landmarks.

Happy Sunday!

I’m hoping you’re enjoying your weekend so far. I’m so glad that the weekend doesn’t end with today. I love long weekends because when Mondays come around, I can still sleep in. Plus, the work week is feels much shorter with one less day. =)

I’m actually headed down south to Monterey to visit a friend today, but I’m hoping it’ll warm up just a little bit so I can take walks on the beach without freezing. My plans today include: picking strawberries, indulging in pies, and satisfying clam chowder cravings. What are your plans for this weekend?

Last weekend, my sister and I attended SF’s Matcha Fest, where all the vendors present at the festival sold matcha flavored desserts and drinks. Here are some of my favorites:

Matcha Cream Filled Bomboloni from Mr. Bomboloni

Matcha filled choux from Choux SF.

Thai Tea Custard Cake from Third Culture Bakery.

Matcha Mochi Waffles topped with Matcha Ice Cream from Enter the Cafe.

I got to try so many desserts that I’ve never had before but have always wanted to. I loved that all these vendors were in one place so I could try everything I want. Except the lines were just kinda ridiculously long. Now, I’m so tempted to go back to these bakeries to get more of my favorites.

Oh, I can’t believe that it’s Memorial Day weekend in just a couple days. I don’t really have much planned since I work on Saturday, so it’s not like I have a long weekend either. Sadly. But I love that it signals the beginning of summer!

Fresh sweet tomatoes, juicy berries, corn on the cob. That summer life is almost here! Along with barbeques and picnics and walks along the coastline.

So of course, I’m all ready for it! And I’m about to share with you a new summer staple: avocado corn caprese salad.

Happy Sunday!

Did you guys catch the Royal Wedding yesterday? I woke up early to watch the arrival of the family and to get the first looking of the wedding dress. To be honest, I was a little disappointed that the wedding dress was so simple, but Meghan Markle looked amazing regardless. And did you get a chance to watch Bishop Michael Curry’s sermon? I thought it was really powerful and inspiring. And of course, the Kingdom Choir sounded so good. Don’t you just love weddings?

I just wished I didn’t have work, especially after getting up at 3:45 in the morning to watch the wedding. So I’m completely exhausted and would love to sleep in on my Sunday off. Except that’s not really what I have planned. I bought tickets a few weeks ago for both me and my sister for SF Matcha Fest. Can’t wait to share photos of the food we try! Obviously. =)

Happy Friday!

Are you guys watching the Royal Wedding this weekend? I actually have work on Saturday, but I’m thinking that I might get up early just to watch. Well, the part where Meghan Markle arrives in her dress because that’s really the part I want to see. Lol. I can already tell you I’m going to be so exhausted on Saturday.

And I’m excited for Sunday. My sister and I are going to SF Matcha Fest! It’s a festival for all things green tea.

In the meantime, it finally feeling warmer in SF. And I love that the flowers are in full bloom right now. Have you been to Japantown in SF? There’s so many different foods and desserts to try! It’s so hard to decide what I want.

Philadelphia's Center City | Cooking with a Wallflower

Part of what I loved about traveling alone was that I could get up at whatever time I want and begin my day. Which means I can start exploring the city before it gets too crowded. So on my second day, I had so many places I wanted to see and so many foods to try. I covered both Center City and the Museum District, but I’m going to focus on Center City for this post.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Are you guys celebrating Mother’s Day with brunch?

My mom works today so brunch isn’t possible. Instead, we decided that we’re either doing a special seafood dinner at home or we’ll be going out for dinner. My mom hasn’t quite decided yet what she wants to do.

Whatever it is you guys decide to do to celebrate, I hope you’ll have a fantastic Sunday with your moms. =)

Mother’s Day Brunch Edition

It’s Mother’s Day this Sunday! What do you have planned?

Fried Chicken Benedict over Cream Biscuits

By the way, I had brunch with a friend at Brenda’s French Soul Food and ordered a Fried Chicken Benedict over Cream Biscuits. It’s topped with Creole hollandaise sauce. Seriously, one of the best benedicts I’ve had. Sooo good. If you’re in SF, and you’re craving Southern-style brunch, this is the place to go. Just don’t order the beignets cuz nothing beats Cafe du Monde. =)

Happy Wednesday!

Guess what I just realized? We’re just weeks away from summer, and I’m soo excited. I’m already picturing berries and stone fruits. Ripe tomatoes and asparagus. Seriously, all that summer produce is just weeks away! I’m so ready for it!

In the meantime, I kinda wish the weather was cooperating. Some days it’s super cold, windy, and gloomy, and other days it’s warm and spring like. Can we decide already whether or not it’s spring?
