Spring mix salad tossed with thinly sliced apples, chopped tomatoes, almonds, and maple balsamic vinaigrette. This autumn apple salad with maple balsamic vinaigrette is perfect for the early fall heat.
It’s the first week of fall, but it feels like summer has just started in San Francisco.
Most of the year, San Francisco is cool and breezy with overcast skies. Our temperature averages to around mid-50s and 60s. But once it hits September and October, our temperature rises. And because we’re so used to the lower temperatures, and never really have a need for air conditioning, pretty much no one in San Francisco has air conditioning.
And on hot days, like it has been the last few weeks, we’re all scrambling to find ways to cool down including running out to buy a fan. But of course, it’s what everyone else is doing so all the stores are sold out. The story of our lives. Lol.
It also means I haven’t really been cooking that much. It’s way too hot to be standing in the kitchen over a stove so it’s been lots of cold foods like this Autumn Apple Salad with Maple Balsamic Vinaigrette.
Salads are the perfect meal because you can add whatever it is you like to it. You can keep it simple with just a few ingredients like in a caprese salad. Or you can add so many different ingredients to your salad to make it exciting. It’s all up to you.
But my favorite ingredients in a fall salad? Apples. I absolutely love that there are so many varieties of apples for you to choose from during the fall. My favorites are Honeycrisp and SweeTango. Both are sweet and tart and so good on their own, but they can also add so much flavor to a salad.
And then of course, my favorite fall dressing, maple balsamic vinaigrette. You can’t go wrong with it.
In a large bowl, add a spring salad mix or baby lettuce, sliced apples, roasted almonds, chopped tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. You can add other ingredients if you like. Corn, walnuts, pecans, avocado are some other ingredients you can add.
In a small bottle, add maple syrup, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil. Shake until the dressing is well combined.
Serve the autumn apple salad with maple balsamic vinaigrette.

I love salads just for the reason you mentioned – you can make it your own and add any ingredients you like. What makes a salad special is the dressing. You have used two of my favorite ingredients in a dressing; maple syrup and balsamic vinegar. I know I would love this and I am sure everyone at Fiesta Friday will too!
