It’s been raining the entire weekend in San Francisco, and there are no signs of the rainstorm letting up. I think we’re in for a whole week of rain and gusty winds. Which means it’s the perfect time to spend in the kitchen with the oven on.

The oven is definitely not my favorite to have on during the summer when it’s super warm and the sun is streaming through the windows, creating an inferno in the kitchen. But during the winter when it’s cold outside, the warmth radiating from the oven is the most comforting. It doesn’t matter if I’m making dinner or baking desserts, it’s just so cozy in the kitchen when the oven is on. At least it is to me. Do you feel the same way?

Last weekend, one of my friends stopped by Mr. Holmes’ Bakehouse and tried their churro croissant. She loved it so much she highly recommended it to me. So of course, this week I had to try it for myself. She was right. The flaky layers of the croissant, the cinnamon sugar coating the outside, and the sweet cream on the inside. It was the perfect balance in flavor and texture.

I found the cutest display of dumplings on the top floor of the Westfield Shopping Centre. I think they look more like puffs of clouds. Lol.

There’s a new bakery in San Francisco that sells baked cheese tarts called Bake Cheese Tart. I think they’re originally from Japan. During this month, they sell matcha cheese tarts. So of course, I needed to get myself some to try. These matcha cheese tarts are sweet and slightly salty so the perfect balance in flavor.

Just the other day, I went to Home SF, a cute little cafe with an extensive latte and toast menu. I decided that I wanted to try this lavender jasmine tea latte, a mochi muffin, and a Thai tea custard cake. They’re all sooo good. The texture of the mochi muffin and Thai tea custard cake were just so amazing.

Last weekend, my sister and I attended SF’s Matcha Fest, where all the vendors present at the festival sold matcha flavored desserts and drinks. Here are some of my favorites:

Matcha Cream Filled Bomboloni from Mr. Bomboloni

Matcha filled choux from Choux SF.

Thai Tea Custard Cake from Third Culture Bakery.

Matcha Mochi Waffles topped with Matcha Ice Cream from Enter the Cafe.

I got to try so many desserts that I’ve never had before but have always wanted to. I loved that all these vendors were in one place so I could try everything I want. Except the lines were just kinda ridiculously long. Now, I’m so tempted to go back to these bakeries to get more of my favorites.

Earlier this week, my friend Jen (the friend I went to visit in Pennsylvania) and I finally went to Mr. Holmes Bakehouse. We have wanted to go for the longest time, but just never got around to it. It might be that lines aren’t really our thing. Lol.

Cruffins

The bakery is well known for their cruffins, a hybrid of croissants and muffins. Each of these cruffins are filled with a flavored cream. And every day, there’s a new flavor featured. On Wednesday, the day we went, their cruffins are filled with a peanut butter and honey cream. It’s definitely worth a try. But I think my favorite was their brown butter toffee cookies. Super soft and chewy, just the way I like my cookies.

I found a matcha croissant at a local bakery and couldn’t resist buying one to try. Are you into matcha as much as I am? I think I was into matcha long before it became a thing. Lol. Now, I see it everywhere.

Hi hi!

It feels like forever since I’ve been here. An entire week of vacation and suddenly it’s so hard to fall back into normal routine. Back to work, back to blogging, back to reality. I’m going to need a few more days to adapt. It’s always so hard to transition from vacation mode to real life.

Philadelphia City Hall

I spent three days in Philadelphia, exploring historical landmarks, visiting museums, eating delicious food, and admiring the architecture. Like, this image of city hall! Then, I spent a few more days in other parts of Pennsylvania, including Hershey! Yes, as in the chocolate company. An entire town dedicated to Hershey’s and it was soo amazing.

Happy Saturday!

It’s been such a busy past few days and so many more busy days ahead. But it’s been so much fun.

Last weekend, my friend took me out to the View Lounge at the Marriott in downtown SF to celebrate my birthday early. We sat by floor to ceiling windows to get a view of the SF skyline while enjoying some of their signature cocktails. And we basically waited for the sun to set so we can watch the skies change colors.
