Matcha honey butter toast is one of my recent favorites for a quick breakfast or snack.
A few months ago, my boyfriend and I went to Portland for an extended weekend getaway. As usual, many of my trips are focused on eating good food. So prior to going to Portland, I made a list of different restaurants we wanted to try, and when we got there, we wanted to hit as many places as possible.
One of the places on our list was Kimura Toast Bar. We wanted to try their basque burnt cheesecake, but they had such an extensive toast menu that we knew we had to order some while we were there. They specialized in Japanese milk bread topped with different ingredients. You’ll find variations of avocado toast and of course, flavored butter toast.
And being me, I like to take notes on the food that we ate and the interesting items on the menu. That way I could replicate the foods that we liked back at home.
If you’ve never had honey butter on toast or on buttermilk biscuits, you really need to try it. There’s something about the creaminess of the butter with a hint of honey that’s so addictive.
Adding matcha to the honey butter? That takes it to a whole other level.
The earthy flavor of the matcha powder cuts into the sweetness of the honey butter. It’s creamy and so delicious. Spread it on a warm thick slice of toast and it is amazing. It’s simple yet so delicious. A pinch of flaky sea salt finishes off this toast. And since you can store the pre-made butter in the fridge, you can easily heat up toast in the morning, spread butter on it, and eat your toast on the go. Or you can have one ready for an afternoon snack. Seriously, sooo good.
In a small bowl, whisk together honey, powdered sugar, matcha powder, and room temperature butter until well combined.
Slather about a tablespoon of the matcha honey butter on warm toast.
Serve the matcha honey butter toast warm with a pinch of flaky sea salt.

- 2 ½ teaspoons honey
- ¼ teaspoon powdered sugar
- ½ teaspoon matcha powder
- 4 thick slices of bread, toasted
