A summery cocktail composed of frozen watermelon puree, simple syrup, gin, and lime juice then topped with crushed ice and perilla leaves. This watermelon gimlet embodies the flavor of summer and is so refreshing.
Celebrating the last of summer before fall officially begins.
Can you believe that it’s almost fall? Just two more days and another season has passed us by.
But living in the city, our summers almost always arrive in September and October. For most of the year, we are surrounded by fog and overcast skies. But when September and October arrives, the skies are clear and the temperatures begin to rise.
So… since it’s the beginning of a short summer for us and the end of summer for everyone else, I thought I’d share this summer inspired cocktail with you. It’s perfect for keeping us cool during these warmer days. And so simple to make too.
One of my favorite summer fruits is the watermelon. Because what’s summer without watermelon? It’s the fruit of the summer. So sweet, so juicy, and so refreshing. Especially on a hot day. So it only makes sense for this cocktail to have the flavors of summer.
Watermelon puree, gin, lime juice, simple syrup, and crushed ice. Just some simple ingredients with a ton of flavor.
In a blender or food processor, blend or pulse about a cup or two of frozen cubed watermelon until smooth. You want about a third cup of frozen watermelon puree.
In a medium sized glass or a cocktail shaker, add gin, lime juice, simple syrup, and crushed ice. Shake or stir until all the ingredients are incorporated. Pour the drink into a small serving glass or a mason jar. Top with more crushed ice. Then pour the icy cold watermelon puree over the ice.
Garnish the watermelon gimlet with mint leaves or perilla leaves.
Serve the watermelon gimlet cold.

That looks so good! ..and yes, I would consider it to be summer a lot longer in CA. Here we already had the first frost on Friday night.
