Hot apple cider with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. Easy to make with just a few ingredients, this fall beverage will become a favorite.
I’m obsessed with apple beverages during the fall. Freshly pressed apple juices are one of my absolute favorites. I will go out of my way to the Farmer’s Market just to get cold freshly pressed apple juice. And during family gatherings, sparkling apple ciders are the perfect choice for a nonalcoholic bubbly drink.
But for those slightly chilly breezy fall days? I prefer hot apple cider. There’s something about it that’s just so warm and comforting.
I’m not always a fan of store bought hot apple cider like those from Starbuck’s because I think they put soo much spice that the cinnamon overwhelms me. But a homemade one? Absolutely perfect. You can add as much cinnamon and nutmeg as you like to your taste. If you like a lot, add more. If you like just a hint, add less.
And the best thing about this drink is that you can add all the ingredients together in one pot and allow it to simmer without worrying or fussing over it. As the apple juice simmers with the cinnamon and nutmeg, your entire kitchen smells just like fall.
What can be better than that?
Pour apple juice into a small pot, and add cinnamon and nutmeg over medium heat. Allow the drink to simmer for about 15 minutes for the flavors to blend. Then remove the pot from heat and let the apple cider cool down for a few minutes.
Pour the apple cider into a glass and serve warm.
Easy, right?

Sounds yummy, but I thought you meant actual cider was in it because that’s what is meant by hot cider in the UK. We’d call this hot apple juice. Mulled (hot) cider with winter spices is actually amazing – that and mulled wine are the best things about winter!

What a great idea! I have a small crock pot. I could pour some apple juice in there and let it simmer all day, permeating my “house” (camper) with the aroma and dip it into a cup whenever I’m ready, put in a cinnamon stick, a little nutmeg and cloves, and presto! A great healthy beverage on a cool day. Thanks.
