Happy Wednesday!

I hope you’re in the mood for a treat today.

Lately, I’ve been missing all those fancy drinks from the local cafes. Mainly all those milk tea and lattes that I used to be able to easily order. But since it’s not as easy these days to go out and buy your favorite treats, I thought I would share this salted caramel matcha latte with you.

Honestly, I’m not the biggest fan of milk. I think it’s great when used in baking and cooking. Or to accompany cereal. Or made into a fancy drink. But milk by itself? Not so much. Maybe it goes back to the days when I had to drink a glass of milk a day. Who knows? lol

What I do love though is that milk can be enhanced in so many ways. I can add a matcha cold brew over the iced milk to give it an earthy and nutty flavor. Lightly sweeten the milk with maple syrup or sugar makes the drink delicious and perfect as a treat.

For this version of matcha latte, I decided to drizzle salted caramel on the sides of the glass to give it a rich and buttery flavor. I feel like you can’t go wrong with salted caramel.

Make a batch of salted caramel like with this small batch or buy caramel syrup from the store. You can keep it in the fridge for awhile too for other drinks and treats.

The combination of the salted caramel with the matcha latte gives the drink a buttery and rich note. And that drizzle on the size of the glass makes it a fancy looking drink when it doesn’t take much work or time to make at all.

In a small bowl, whisk together matcha powder and a small amount of water until a paste forms. Add the rest of the water and whisk until all the matcha powder has dissolved. It’s best if you have a bamboo whisk. It helps evenly dissolve all of the matcha powder. But if you use a small whisk, that should work too. Set aside for now.

Drizzle salted caramel on the sides of each of the tall glasses.

Then add 1-2 teaspoons of maple syrup each into the bottom of two tall glasses. Add about a half cup of ice to each glass. Pour the milk into the glass so that the milk hits the ice.

Add about a half cup more ice to each of the glass. You want the ice to be higher than the milk. Pour the matcha cold brew into the glass so that it hits the ice and not directly into the milk. This will create a layered effect.

Serve the salted caramel matcha latte cold with fresh mint leaves on top.

Enjoy!
