Old fashioned oats cooked in chocolate nut milk and topped with toasted nuts, fresh blood oranges, and berries. This chocolate oat breakfast bowl is a healthy way to start your mornings.
It’s time for breakfast!
I rarely have time to sit down for breakfast in the morning. It’s kind of hard to when I have to leave the house to catch the bus at 6:30 or 6:55 in the morning depending on where I work. I really don’t want to wake up any earlier than I already do to make breakfast. So often, I would grab something I can eat on the go. Like granola bars or fruits or yogurt.
Then there are days when I want something more, something warm. Especially on a cold morning.
My solution? This breakfast bowl.
This oatmeal is so simple to make and takes only minutes to put together that I don’t have to worry so much about time.
And I love that by using a chocolate nut milk, like chocolate walnut milk or chocolate soymilk or chocolate almond milk (see a pattern in my choices?), the oatmeal becomes creamy with just a hint of chocolate. I love adding milk when I’m making oatmeal because it gives a creamy texture that water doesn’t have. And the chocolate is just a plus. But if you don’t have a chocolate nut milk, you can always use any milk that you have.
And of course, oatmeal is just too plain if it doesn’t have any toppings. I love mine topped with a ton of dried fruits, fresh fruits, and a mix of nuts.
First, add old fashioned oats and water to a small pot over medium heat. Allow them to come to a boil and then add the chocolate nut milk. I used chocolate walnut milk. Next, stir in the brown sugar. You’ll have to continuously stir so that the oatmeal doesn’t burn at the bottom, but it only takes a minute or two until the oatmeal is softened to your liking.
Place the oatmeal in a bowl and top with fresh blueberries, sweet and tart blood oranges, dried cranberries, and a mix of your favorite nuts.
Serve the Chocolate Oat Breakfast Bowl warm.
Enjoy!
- 1 cup old fashioned oats
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup chocolate nut milk (or any milk of your choice)
- ½ - 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 blood orange, skin removed and segmented
- ⅛ – ¼ cup fresh or frozen blueberries
- 1-2 tablespoons dried cranberries
- 2 tablespoons chopped nuts
- In a small pot, add old fashioned oat and water over medium heat and bring it to a boil. Then add the chocolate nut milk. Stir continuously with a spoon to prevent the oatmeal from becoming burnt at the bottom. Cook for about two minutes until the oatmeal is softened to your liking.
- Stir in the brown sugar until it is evenly distributed.
- Place the oatmeal into a bowl.
- Top with blood orange, blueberries, dried cranberries, and chopped nuts.
- Serve the chocolate oat breakfast bowl warm.
