Warm cheesy and slightly garlicky pizza on French bread topped with grape tomatoes and chiffonade basil for a simple but delicious meal. This French bread pizza is great for days when you don’t feel like making dinner.
What to eat when you’re feeling lazy? French bread pizza, of course. =)
I’ve made French bread pizza a few months ago for dinner. You can check out the recipe for Spring Salad, Mushrooms, and Grape Tomato Pizza with Spicy White Garlic Sauce as another idea for a quick dinner. If you’ve made that French bread pizza recipe before, you’ll find that this one is pretty similar.
Making a Margherita French Bread Pizza is very simple. It only requires three main ingredients: mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and basil. The hardest part is creating the sauce which takes just a few minutes to make. I wasn’t in the mood to cook, at least nothing that required lots of ingredients or dishwashing, so I decided to stop by my local Safeway store and buy a loaf of French bread. It was only $1.19, which is perfect when you’re eating on a budget.
I love this French Bread Pizza because it’s filled with so much flavor. The juiciness of the tomatoes, the refreshing taste of basil, and the warm cheesiness of the mozzarella complement each other perfectly. Each bite is both tasty, healthy, and filling.
To make the spicy white garlic sauce, cook minced garlic until it’s aromatic. Then pour in heavy whipping cream and flour. Add Italian seasoning, crushed red peppers, and salt. Cook and stir the sauce until it thickens to the consistency of your liking. You can find step-by-step instruction with photos from this recipe, Spicy Garlic Mozzarella Breadsticks.
Preheat the oven at 350oF. Line a baking pan with foil and set aside for now.
Take half a loaf of French bread and slice it in half horizontally. Now you have two open slices of bread.
Spread the white garlic sauce onto the bread so that it covers the whole bread.
Sprinkle on mozzarella cheese.
Slice the grape tomatoes thinly and chiffonade the basil.
Place the French bread pizza on the baking pan and into the oven at 350oF for 5-8 minutes until the cheese has melted and the tomatoes have softened.
Slice the French bread pizza into smaller pieces if desired.
Serve immediately warm and enjoy!
