Soft and fluffy pull part bread filled with green onions in every bite. Inspired by green onion pancakes, this green onion pull apart bread is savory and delicious and an amazing snack.
Happy Sunday!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend.
We’ve been busy trying to furnish our apartment and packing and unpacking and downsizing. As much as I love that we’re embarking on a new chapter, I’m ready for all the chaos to be over so that I can develop a routine again. At the moment, I feel like I’m all over the place. And stressing over the smallest things. Like what kind of pots and pans I want. Or how I’m going to fit all the clothes I have into our closet.
Seriously… I didn’t know how much I accumulated over the years until I had to pack for our move. And now I’m wondering why I thought it was a good idea to buy all the sweaters and boots that I have in the same style but different colors. Note to my future self: every clothing item that I buy, I have to toss out one. And don’t even get me started on all the magazines I’ve kept. Tell me: how do you keep all those things organized? I would love tips on how to stay organized and downsize
In the mean time, let’s talk about this green onion pull apart bread.
It’s been a little while since I shared a more involved baking project, and I thought this would be the perfect time to share it.
This green onion pull apart bread is inspired my favorite green onion pancakes. For this pull apart bread, I wanted to take the savory flavors that I loved so much and turn it into a more filling snack. One that I could also bring with me as breakfast in the morning.
This green onion pull apart bread is soft and fluffy. It’s also buttery and savory. And it is absolutely delicious. The hardest part is waiting for the dough to rise a little before you can make the bread.
Hope you enjoy this as much as I do!
In a large bowl, combine yeast, flour, and salt. Add warm milk, honey, egg and butter. Mix until the flour is completely incorporated. If the dough seems too sticky, add up to a ¼ cup of flour to the dough. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for about a half hour to an hour.
To make the green onion butter, combine melted salted butter, finely chopped green onions, shredded mozzarella, and minced garlic.
Prepare a 9×5 inch loaf pan. Lightly grease all the sides with melted butter or olive oil. Set aside for now.
Transfer the dough to a work surface and cut it into 4 equal pieces. Lightly flour your work surface. Take one piece and roll out the dough into a large rectangle. Spread the green onion butter over the dough. Then cut the rolled out dough into 3 strips lengthwise and then into 2 strips crosswise to create 6 rectangles. Stack the rectangles on top of each other. Repeat with the other 3 pieces of dough and green onion butter. Stand the stacked rectangles in the prepared loaf pan. They won’t completely fill the pan and that’s okay.
Cover the pan with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Sprinkle extra shredded mozzarella cheese and sliced green onion on top of the bread.
Transfer to the oven, and bake the green onion pull apart bread for about 30-40 minutes until the bread is golden brown. Let the bread rest in the pan for about 5 minutes before using a spatula to separate the edge of the bread from the pan. Carefully remove the bread from the pan. Brush with melted butter if desired. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and top with more chopped green onions if desired.

I followed this recipe exactly, turned out awesome, the only thing I’d change is to double the filling recipe. Needs way more scallions/cheese/garlic. Really pleased the bread turned out fluffy, I’m normally horrible at baking!

How many teaspoons of yeast are in a packet of instant yeast? I have a jar of yeast instead of packages. I want to try this recipe with gluten-free flour in my air fryer.
Andrea | Cooking with a Wallflower says
I believe it’s 2 1/4 teaspoons.
