Chex cereal tossed with pretzels, nuts, and bugles in spicy togarashi seasoning. This togarashi chex mix is packed full of flavor and perfect for snacking.
Let’s talk snacks!
With Super Bowl weekend just days away, it’s all about the game day snacks. As usual, I have little interest in the game. Mostly because I can’t seem to understand it lol. So it’s the snacks that I’m obsessed with.
I love all the appetizers, finger foods, and snacks that are served for game day. So of course, I’m going to share with you some of my favorites. And this togarashi chex mix? It’s high up on that list.
I used a combination of Chex cereal, nuts, Bugles, and mini pretzels to create this mix. But you can easily customize the ingredients with your favorite cereals, nuts, and neutral flavored corn chips. You can even add gold fishes and rye chips.
To season this snack mix, I tossed all of these ingredients with togarashi, a Japanese chili powder seasoning that has a hint of lime. I love that it gives the chex mix a spicy kick. But if you don’t like spicy, you can simply replace the togarashi seasoning with furikake seasoning, a Japanese sweet and savory seaweed mixture.
Bake all this snack mix on a baking sheet over low heat for about an hour until they’ve browned. Wait for them to cool and then you can eat them by the handful. They’re perfect for an everyday afternoon snack or a game day snack. Or you can put them into a mason jar and give them out as gifts.
Hope you enjoy these as much as I do!
Preheat the oven to 225F.
Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Melt the butter and granulated sugar in a small pot over low heat. Once the sugar has melted, remove from heat and mix in vegetable oil, corn syrup, and soy sauce until well incorporated.
Place Chex cereal, mini pretzels, Bugles, walnuts, cashews, and macadamia nuts into a large mixing bowl. Pour the butter mixture over the cereal mixture and toss until well coated. Add furikake seasoning and togarashi seasoning into the bowl. Toss until all the cereal is covered in the seasoning.
Divide the cereal mixture onto the baking sheets. Bake the snack mix for about an hour or until the cereal is dry. Remove the Chex mix from the oven every 15 minutes and toss to prevent the cereal from browning too quickly or becoming burnt. Ovens sometimes have hot spots.
Let the togarashi chex mix cool before placing them into airtight containers.
Serve the togarashi chex mix as a snack or you can give them as gifts.
