Sweet watermelon blended with water and a little sugar. This watermelon agua fresca is a refreshing way to cool down during the summer.
Happy National Watermelon Day! Actually, I’m a day late. Oops.
But that’s okay. Because I still want to share this recipe with you.
It’s been soo hot these last few days that I feel like we need this agua fresca in our lives.
Last week while we were vacationing in Napa Valley, my sisters and I kept eyeing these sliced watermelons. They were sold in the refrigerator section at V. Sattui and conveniently came with a fork and knife, perfect for picnics. Since it was so hot out, like 106 degrees melting hot, it was so tempting to buy a watermelon to munch on. The only thing stopping us was the price. And even then, we almost didn’t care. There’s something about cold watermelon that’s such a thirst quencher.
So you can imagine just how refreshing a watermelon agua fresca would be. Agua fresca, which is Spanish for cool water, is a light drink from Mexico that combines fresh fruits with water and a little sugar. It’s so easy to make and require very little ingredients. You can use your favorite fruits to create this drink. The possibilities are endless.
Since the fruits are blended with water, the beverage becomes less sweet. I added a little sugar, but it’s up to you whether you want to add any.
Blend cubed watermelon with cold water and sugar until it’s completely smooth. Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least a half hour to allow the drink to chill. Serve over ice if desired.
Enjoy!
- 3 cups watermelon, cubed
- ½ cup cold water
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- Ice cubes for serving
- Blend the watermelon with the cold water and sugar until smooth. Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 30 minutes until cool. Serve the agua fresca over ice.
