Berry Smoothie

A delicious blend of strawberries, blueberries, Greek yogurt, and a bit of milk, this smoothie is a great way to start the day.

I’m actually heading to Lake Tahoe with my friends tonight for a weekend getaway. I don’t venture to snowy areas that often so I’m super excited. And I had no idea what to pack! Which really means that I probably over packed. We’re supposed to go snowboarding, but I’ve done it only once before, three years ago. I know I’m going to fall a lot!

Even though I’m going to be away, I’m writing this recipe beforehand so I can publish it over the weekend anyway.

This is yet another smoothie recipe, I know, but this one is filled with tons of antioxidants from the blueberries, Vitamin C from both fruits, protein from the Greek yogurt, and calcium from both the yogurt and the milk. It is super healthy for you, and there’s no added sugar, other than what’s already in the yogurt.

I actually created this recipe because one reader asked if there was a substitute similar to Noosa, the Australian style yogurt that I used in my strawberry banana smoothie recipe.  I hadn’t realized that it was difficult to get this yogurt in another country so I went out and bought honey Greek yogurt because I know it’s less tart and played around with it until I got a similar consistency as Noosa. It turned out to be pretty simple, which is perfect for this blog. That’s why I’m sharing another smoothie recipe with you to include this alternative.

First, chop up strawberries to make about a cup and then add them to the blender. I recommend trying your strawberries before you use them. Some of mine were super sour.

Add a ½ cup of blueberries. I froze the blueberries so that the smoothie would be cold when blended, but it turned out that it still wasn’t cold enough so I added a few ice cubes.

Mix ¼ cup of honey Greek yogurt and a teaspoon of milk. This will make the Greek yogurt creamier with a consistency similar to the Australian style yogurt.

Blend the ingredients for a couple minutes until it becomes smooth and no longer have chunks of fruits.

There you go! A smoothie that’s perfect for a quick breakfast or even a mid-day snack.

Serve cold in a tall glass or a mason jar. Enjoy!

** See what’s in the background on the right side? It’s a sneak peek at a future post. =)
