Life of a Wallflower, 15 – Wallflower in LA Day 4

Our last day in Southern California meant we had to get in a few more bakeries and restaurants before heading back home to the Bay Area.

We woke up early to pack and then headed to Pop’s Café in Downey for one last meal. Pop’s Café is a small restaurant, hidden in a plaza. Even if you’re looking for the restaurant, you might just miss it. That’s what happened to us. The wait was about an hour since we were a big group, but the food was amazing. I highly recommend stopping here if you have the chance.

Afterwards, we headed down the street to Porto’s Bakery and Café.

This bakery is famous for their cheese rolls and many other pastries.

The lines were so hectic, but the wait wasn’t too long, luckily.


We ended up getting cheese rolls, guava and cheese strudels, guava filled strudels, strawberry croissants, and chocolate croissants. Plus a strawberry shortcake.

We didn’t eat these. They were gifts for friends and family at home. But I highly recommend this bakery. The pastries are delicious and cheap! The cheese rolls were only 70 cents each and the guava strudels were 75 cents each. They make great gifts =)

Now that my trip to Southern California is over, it’s time to get back to work. Tomorrow night I will post brand new recipes because after overindulging on this trip, I need something healthy, and I miss home cooked meals.

      Hi! So sorry it took me so long to reply! It’s been a busy holiday season! It’s not a stupid question. Trust me! I had no idea what it was for a long time either! Eggs benedict is basically poached eggs (eggs that have been cooked intact in hot water) served over English muffins and topped with hollandaise sauce (a combination of butter, egg yolk, and lemon). Depending on each restaurant or the recipe you make, there are different types since you can add extra ingredients. But that’s the basics of an eggs benedict =) Hope that helps!     Aaawesome! You’ve been in my neck of the woods and I love that you went to a lot of places I didn’t even know existed! Thanks for sharing!

    I love Porto’s! While i’m not vegetarian I only have meat on occasion also. I just really happen to love vegetables but when i’m at Porto’s they have these Cuban meat filled potato balls that I get every time. SOoo good.

      I’m not a vegetarian either. But I eat more vegetables than meat most days. =) I’ve heard that Porto’s potato balls are amazing, but unfortunately, I don’t eat beef so I didn’t order it. I watched my cousins eat them instead. lol. But Porto’s will definitely be a place I’ll return to. I loved their cheese rolls and their guava danishes. Amazing and addictive
