I am so obsessed with spring because of all the pretty colorful flowers in bloom. It’s been raining so much these past few months so the arrival of spring is definitely welcomed. So many flowers like lilies, tulips, and ranunculus are in bloom now.
But cherry blossoms are one of my favorites.
The cherry blossoms are in full bloom in Golden Gate Park, and they are especially gorgeous in the Japanese Tea Garden. If you’re in the San Francisco area, you should definitely make it a priority to visit the Japanese Tea Garden while the cherry blossoms are still in bloom.
It’s been really difficult to do normal every day things lately, and even more so right after my grandma’s funeral. I think part of it is that prior to the ceremony, it was easy to pretend that none of it had happened. But during and after the ceremony, it became a reality.
Normally, on my day off, I would go shopping for ingredients, create dishes, plate them, and photograph them. But lately, I just haven’t had the inspiration. It’s been so hard to get back into routine. And I needed to do something different.
I seriously love the koi fish!
My sister and I both had last Wednesday off, so we went to Golden Gate Park and then out to lunch. I needed an escape. And the Japanese Tea Garden felt like the perfect place for it. Since I went early in the morning, right when they opened, it was quiet and serene, for the most part.
Isn’t the Japanese Tea Garden so pretty? Have you been before? And what is your favorite local getaway spot? I would love to hear from you!

It’s so pretty!! Your images are just lovely. Thank you so much for the arm-chair tour. I am not going to make it up there in time to see this wonderful season at its best.
I hope this week you find it a little easier, and the memories of your Grandmother; the times you shared, her love for you, and your love of her bring you joy and comfort. xx

That looks like a perfect place to reflect and relax. The thing I finally realized after my husband passed was that things will never be as they were. The key is to work toward a “new normal” that will honor your grandmother and what she meant to you. That may be going back to cooking, or it may be that you take a completely different path. I do know it is hard, but have confidence that you will find your way.

This place looks amazing and you have captured its beauty so perfectly. Thanks for sharing. I totally agree with you, most gardens are best visited early morning, when the landscape is not dotted by people. 🙂

These pictures are stunning! Glad u got to see the cherry blossoms 🙂 These are so different from our cherry trees, and I always wondered about the body spray scent “Japanese cherry blossoms.” With such beautiful petals, I understand why they’d smell wonderful now. Also, time heals all (or at least makes it more bearable). So hang in there till time starts his work. 🙂

I’ve been to San Francisco once before (and will be there again this summer) but have never been to this spot. It looks very peaceful and serene, an oasis of calm in the city.
