There’s a place in Southern California that sells durian macarons. Yes, you read that right. When my family and I went to So Cal last year, we looked for all sorts of treats to try. We found Brodard Bistro which sells all flavors of macarons, including durian and lychee. Since my cousin went down south this past weekend, I wanted her to bring me back some macarons to indulge. Because I’m still not brave enough to attempt making my own =)
This pecan pie looks so perfect for Thanksgiving. I can’t believe I’ve never had pecan pie before. I so need to remedy that.
This salted bourbon pecan pumpkin pie. Pecan and pumpkin pie all in one.
This chocolate cinnamon swirl pumpkin brioche bread. Seriously. So many flavors in one.
A nutella latte. Oh my god. I want this now. I’m dreaming of this tonight.
You know how much I love gnocchi. And mac and cheese. So why didn’t I think of this gnocchi mac and cheese? The perfect fall comfort food.

Pumpkin whoopie pie! This is so cute!
This Snickerdoodle Bundt Cake looks amazingly tasty.
I’m always looking for an easy sauce like this enchilada sauce.
Sometimes a good vanilla bean cheesecake is all you need for dessert.
As if French toast isn’t amazing on its own. Can you imagine Pumpkin Bread French Toast? I’m soo waking up early to take a bite out of this.
Can you picture dipping slices of apples in pumpkin pie dip?
Looking for an idea for dinner? Try this Orange Rosemary Chicken.
This Autumn Harvest Apple Crisp looks like the perfect dessert.
I’m in love with pumpkin donuts so this pumpkin spice donut is up my alley.
Spinach Chicken Curry sounds like another good option for dinner this week.
Banana Pancake with Honey Butter sounds perfect for breakfast this weekend.
How decadent does this Toffee Apple Gingerbread Loaf look? I want a piece now.

I’ve never had durian, though I’ve heard about it from an aunt who lived in Indonesia for many years. Lychee I love; I planted a tree in my garden some years ago. I haven’t had any fruit yet, but I’m still hopeful…

Sometimes it takes awhile for fruit trees to actually bear fruits. That’s what happens with some of my dad’s trees. Crossing my fingers for you =)

Durian like the foul smelling asian fruit?
(Wide-eyed emoticon)
🙂
Andrea| Cooking with a Wallflower says
Yup! lol. I grew it up eating it so I don’t mind it =)

I imagine.

Durians are banned in most Asian hotels. If you can get past the smell, the fruit is worth it. BTW, according to American Express Departures magazine, there are five great macaron makers in the world. As you might guess, most of them are in Paris. But, one — Sucre — is here in New Orleans. I think you have relatives here, yes? 🙂
Andrea| Cooking with a Wallflower says
I grew up with durian so I love it lol. My family is in Harvey. I’m actually headed there in December and hoping to go to the French Quarter for beignets at Cafe du Monde. Is the Sucre you’re referring to the one in the French Quarter? Maybe I can stop there to buy gifts =) Thanks for the recommendation!
Ray Laskowitz says
The one the Quarter is actually a cafe. I’m not sure they have all the baked goods. The original store is on Magazine Street between 7th & 8th Streets. You could probably walk along Magazine and buy all your gifts. 🙂 There is a second shop in Lakeside Mall. Give us a holler if you are in the neighborhood. We live on First Street near Anne Rice’s old house.

Thanks for the tip! We’ll try to make Sucre a stop since I love macarons, but we really only have one day to play the tourist. lol. It’s going to be hectic to try to fit everything into one day!

Holy cow, that’s some list! Those whoopie pies look and sound amazing!

Those macarons look really great! I’ve made them before, and they really aren’t that difficult- just follow the basic rules of meringue.
SoyBend says
I don’t blame you if you don’t attempt to make recipes with durian. The smell of them can knock you out it’s so bad. The macarons look good though.

Great image…they look good!

Those Durian Macarons look awesome! They kind of remind me of whoopie pies! Hugz Lisa and Bear

They look great but you either love or hate it durian, when i lived in Thailand it was everywhere, gotta say i tried it a few times but fresh durian was the worse food i’d ever tried – ohh and that smell! Most high end hotels in Thailand ban durian from their places lol.
Hope you get around to making some …..
Andrea| Cooking with a Wallflower says
It’s definitely true. You either love or hate them. I’m fine with the smell if I’m eating it, but if someone else is eating it, I think it smells like natural gas. lol. It’s terrible when you open the fridge door.

I am not keen on durian but maybe durian macarons worth a try, I’ll have to find who make them in Australia 🙂
