Steel cut oats cooked with diced apples and ground cinnamon, sweetened with maple syrup, then topped with crisp apples and a drizzle of almond milk. This apple cinnamon steel cut oatmeal has all the warm comforting flavors of fall.
Ingredients
4 cups water
1 cup steel cut oats
1 medium apple, peeled, thinly sliced or finely diced
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2-3 tablespoons maple syrup
2 tablespoons almond milk
Toppings
Sliced apples
Granola
Almond milk for drizzling
Directions:
In a medium sized pot, heat up the water until it comes to a boil. Add steel cut oats to the pot and allow it to cook for about 30 minutes. Make sure to stir every once in awhile to prevent the oats from sticking and burning at the bottom. About 15 minutes into cooking the steel cut oats, add diced apples, ground cinnamon, and brown sugar. Stir to incorporate the apples, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Once the oats are cooked, and the apples have softened, remove the pot from heat and let it cool.
Stir in maple syrup and almond milk to make the oatmeal sweet and creamy.
When ready to serve, top the apple cinnamon steel cut oatmeal with slices of crisp apples, granola, and a drizzle of almond milk.
