Serves: 1 mug of hot chocolate

Rich velvety hot chocolate with a hint of cinnamon. This cinnamon hot chocolate is perfect on a cold winter day.
Ingredients
  • 1 ½ cups milk (2%, whole, soy milk)
  • 2 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar, more to taste
  • ⅛ – ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon semi sweet chocolate chips
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Cinnamon stick (optional)
Directions:
  1. In a small pan, warm up the milk over low heat. You can use 2% milk, whole milk, soy milk, or you can mix a combination of milk and heavy cream. Whole milk and heavy cream makes the hot chocolate thicker and creamier.
  2. While the milk is warming up, add cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and cinnamon into a small bowl. Spoon a little bit of the milk into the bowl and mix until the cocoa powder has dissolved and appear paste like.
  3. Use a small spatula to scrape the chocolate into the pot of milk. Add the semi sweet chocolate chips into the pot. Stir to evenly incorporate all the ingredients and allow the chocolate to melt.
  4. Pour the hot chocolate into a mug.
  5. You can add a cinnamon stick for garnish, but remember the cinnamon stick adds a more cinnamon-y taste to the hot chocolate. If you use the cinnamon stick, you may want to add less ground cinnamon.
  6. Serve the cinnamon hot chocolate warm.
