Happy Tuesday!

It’s been such a busy few days for me. Last Friday, my sister officially became an attorney. I took part of the day off from work to watch her get sworn in at the courthouse. It’s finally official! So proud of her. We celebrated that night by going out to eat at an all you can eat hot pot and Korean BBQ. It was a ridiculous amount of food. But sooo much fun. I’ve never had both all you can eat hot pot and Korean BBQ at the same time. If you haven’t had a chance, you need to go try it!

Saturday was just as eventful, but a little more sombering. Saturday marked the 100th day since my grandma passed away. As, I suppose, Chinese tradition, we did another little memorial for her. And while it was sad, we did hang out together as a family and enjoyed a lot of food.

Since my cousin was visiting from New Orleans to do the 100th day memorial for my grandma, we took her out to eat at an all you can eat sushi buffet on Sunday. I seriously don’t know how we managed to eat all that food. But we did….

Anyways, I’m ready to take a break from all the heavier foods and go for something a little lighter.

Have you ever had shishito peppers before?

It might sound weird to be snacking on peppers, but they’re kind of addictive.

It’s a recent thing for me. I’ve heard of it. I’ve seen them on menus all the time. And they’re almost always at the farmer’s market. So I wanted to try them for the longest time. I finally got the chance while I was in Denver. We had ordered a starter called Peppers 5 Ways at Work & Class. Kind of self explanatory, right? And shishito peppers were one of the five.

So, when I got home, it was one of the things on my list to try and make.

Shishito peppers aren’t too spicy. They have a little kick to them, but they’re for the most part pretty mild. Every once in awhile you might come across one that’s a little spicier.

These shishito peppers are so easy to make and take just several minutes.

Toss the shishito peppers in sesame oil and soy sauce until all the peppers are lightly coated.

In a small or medium skillet, add vegetable oil and heat it over low heat. Once the vegetable oil is heated, add minced garlic and cook until lightly browned. Leave the vegetable oil in the pan, but remove the garlic and set it aside for now. If the garlic is cooked for too long or under too high of a heat, it will burn.

Turn the heat up. Once the vegetable oil is hot, add the shishito peppers to the skillet. Cook them until all the sides are blistered. Toss the blistered shishito peppers with the garlic.

LOVE shishito peppers! Unfortunately my plants croaked 😢 Family get together is so important and so much fun, isn’t it? And if it’s for a sad occasion, at least you can comfort each other 👍
