Green Super Smoothie

Filled with a mix of vegetables and fruits, this delicious smoothie contains tons of vitamins, minerals, and even protein. Healthy and simple to make, this recipe is a perfect solution for a quick but nutritious breakfast.

Doesn’t this smoothie sound amazing? It contains soo many different fruits and vegetables that I don’t even feel the slightest bit guilty drinking it! What’s in it? Let’s see… There’s an apple, a mango, three strawberries, a banana, half an avocado, an orange, some baby spinach, a little bit of baby kale, and some Greek yogurt.

I know. I know. You’re probably thinking, “Another smoothie recipe? Again?”

So maybe the last few smoothie recipes were made because I was too lazy to chew… (Just kidding!) But I have a good reason this time. My youngest sister just got her first wisdom tooth extraction yesterday so she can’t eat anything solid or hot for a few days. I decided that this would be a good time to create recipes that don’t require chewing but is still filled with all the nutrients that she needs. That is, until the extraction area is healed enough that we don’t need to worry about opening the wound site.

I actually got the idea for this smoothie from Naked Juice’s Boosted Green Machine Smoothie. Have you ever tried it? It’s a thick green smoothie that’s said to be 100% juice with no added sugar and yet it’s super sweet. I’ll be honest. I’m a little skeptical when it comes to store bought smoothie and juices. So I decided to make my own.

The back panel of the bottle tells you what’s inside the Boosted Green Machine smoothie. So I used some of their main ingredients, but not all of them, and not the same amount. My blender isn’t big enough to hold all those ingredients.

I used an apple, mango, strawberries, banana, and orange for their natural sweetness and because they provide Vitamin C, which helps boosts the immune system and promotes the healing of wounds. Perfect, in this case, for my sister. Spinach and kale are filled with antioxidants, which are great for cancer prevention. Kale is also good for detoxification.  Lastly, I added Greek yogurt because it is filled with protein. As you’re healing from any wound, you want all the nutrients you can get to become stronger and to heal faster. Yes, that’s the dental hygienist in me speaking. =)

I chose to use Plain Greek yogurt over a fruit flavored Greek yogurt due to the amount of protein and the difference in the sugar added. The top container, which is the plain, contains more protein and less sugar compared to the bottom, which is raspberry flavored.

First, peel the skin of the apple, and slice it into small pieces.

Remove the leaves from the strawberries, and slice them into fourths.

Peel the skin of the bananas, and slice it into small pieces.

Remove the skin of the mango, and slice it into smaller pieces.

Cut the avocado in half, carve it out from the outer skin, and slice half of the avocado into thin pieces.

Squeeze the juice of an orange.

Add all the fruits into a blender. Then add spinach, kale, plain Greek yogurt, and several ice cubes.

That’s it. Simple, isn’t it? Blend the ingredients until everything is liquefied and smooth.

Serve cold.
